Why not take a night off and bring the family to see Christmas light displays in Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo. Here is a list of local displays.

In Guelph, the Rotary Club of Guelph presents Sparkles in the Park 2009, a nightly display of in Riverside Park from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. from Dec. 12 to Dec. 31. On Dec. 31 there will be a New Year’s Eve party and fireworks starting at 8 p.m. For information, visit http://sparksinthepark.ca or phone 519-821-3863.

In Kitchener, the Christmas Fantasy in Victoria Park can be enjoyed while walking through the park or by driving along Jubilee Drive, which winds through the parking linking Park Street and Courtland Avenue. There are two parking lots off Jubilee Drive within the park and a third beside the Victoria Park Pavilion.

The display will be lit from dusk to midnight until Jan. 2.

In Waterloo Park, the Wonders of Winter (more than 80 displays and more than 100,000 lights) can be experienced first hand by walking through the park. (Visit http://www.wondersofwinter.ca for a map of parking places close to the park.)

The lights will shine from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. until Jan.3, with extended hours on Christmas Eve (to 12:30 a.m.) and New Year’s Eve (to 1 a.m.)

A free horse-drawn trolley ride is also available to take you around the display. It departs from the Park Inn concession booth and operates on Fridays and Saturdays, from 6:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. (also on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and Dec. 27).
