The City of Cambridge may soon be issuing building permits on another 60 homes in the new Mattamy Homes subdivision in Hespeler.

Monday night, the city’s general committee approved a motion to remove the freeze on construction for the eight-hectare parcel of land where the homes will be built.

The move was made when the Region of Waterloo released enough sewage capacity at the Hespeler sewage treatment plant to allow that portion of the project to proceed.

City planning commissioner Janet Babcock disagrees with the region’s decision to hold back construction of the final 30 homes in the new subdivision. Babcock told council that it would be unfair to the new residents of the subdivision to hold up construction.
